The ‘Q’ endorsement program combines classroom instruction with behind-the-wheel practical training to familiarize the student with necessary skills to operate fire apparatus on the open road. This course will prepare the student for the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles, ‘Q’ license endorsement test. In the classroom, FRFS instructors will review safe driving methods, and case study of vehicle accidents especially pertaining to fire apparatus, emergency vehicle response laws, and an overview of the DMV Commercial Driver’s Manual.
Practical driving training takes place on the actual DMV course layout at the FRFS training ground. This training consists of: vehicle pre-trip inspection procedures, basic control/static course performance, and road test evaluation. FRFS fire vehicles will be utilized during the course. The date of the DMV Test will be determined following the completion of the course.
