The Fairfield Regional Fire School is dedicated and named after former Fairfield Fire Department Captain and Training Officer, Joseph Elias. Captain Joe was a model fire officer and instructor. Senior members of the department still speak of what they learned from him. Captain Joe's teaching style is still envied.
Captain Joe began his career in Fairfield in 1950. He was the first training officer of the Fairfield Fire Department, serving in that capacity from 1966 until his retirement in 1980.
Captain Joe was so devoted to training that in the early 1990’s he willingly returned from retirement to teach pump operations to a group of 13 new firefighters. His commitment to training has been the inspiration to his successors.

In 1965, the Town of Fairfield acquired the former Nike missile radar control site from the U.S. Government. The Fairfield Fire Department initially established the Fairfield Fire Department training center at the location and following years of hard work by the Town of Fairfield and our state delegation, the school was officially recognized as a regional fire training school in 1971 (Public Act 71-132).

TRAINING = SAFETY
The mission of the Fairfield Regional Fire School is to support the development of first responders to the highest level of performance with safety and efficiency.
